Spark of the Week

Heading into the holiday season with a serious slowing down, the story I’m telling myself is that this is a good thing.

Since coming back from Asia, I’ve been struggling to get to full speed, and now everything is about to get upside down for the holidays. This week, I am lucky to have the kids home for a bit (oldest arrived late last night for a week, youngest won’t get home until late Wed for a few days – having them both home together is such a gift.)

As I reflect with gratitude on this year, I am full of enthusiasm for this unique phase of my life.  Not since graduating college and starting my first job have I had the full focus of my time and energy on my personal goals - it’s a huge shift to be so self focused and I feel lucky this time around to have the benefit of crystallized intelligence and financial independence.

I can’t have a gratitude moment without appreciating my Truth Council – having found “my humans” who challenge me and protect my heart to say I cherish these relationships is to show the limitation of language.

Lastly, I want to thank all our followers, listeners and friends who have supported The Meg & Amy show.  We set out to put something into the world that matters and we are beyond grateful for all your help.

I have always known that together we are more powerful than we know and that Inventing the Future is a team sport.

Wishing you all happiness, whimsy and joy as we kick off the holiday season - don't forget to Make Every Day Count (maybe by giving yourself permission to do less ...).

Notice the mud on our pants - Amy will happily sacrifice your body for a photo.

Reading and Pondering

  1. GLP-1 growth - and a good deeper dive on the topic with a focus on menopause and post weight loss.

  2. Macho caregivers - how cool is this?

  3. Amazon deep dive and a good overview of the robotics situation

  4. Doctors paid more for male vs. female procedures - And we wonder why women’s healthcare is suffering in the US.

  5. Solar abundance - Australia gives free power – Meg POV: What happens in a world where energy is free and abundant?  Who would be against this?  How might policy conversations be understood differently with this context?  A long way to say, follow the money.  If you read the comments you also see that power costs for Australians are up 40%.  When entire financial systems are built with energy profits as a foundation, what breaks when you topple that cash cow?

  6. US has 14 women governors (28%) - is this a tipping point? (~30%).

  7. Wealthspan - This is a lot of what we covered in our Financial Freedom episode but with a focus on longevity.

  8. Global Debt to GDP visualization

  9. Global Population by age (note working age is 15+ and “elderly” is 65+ (!!!) )

  10. Bias for girls (babies) on the rise

  11. Just say no already

  12. Female crash test dummies - Women are finally considered to be valid drivers worth protecting from injury.

Work and Jobs

  1. October job cuts - highest since 2003

  2. AI setting wages - Meg POV: struggled to decide to put this one in the work or enshittification list - I found it unsurprising that age pushed up prices for freelance and down for employment - I have seen this with many (many) experienced friends job search experience.

  3. Working moms - outstanding role models for kids.

  4. Elon predicts the end of work (10-20 years from now)

  5. Gemini 3 - “human in the loop” is evolving from “human who fixes AI mistakes” to “human who directs AI work.”

Enshittification and P(catastrophe)

  1. AI cyber attack (shits getting real!) - h/t to Anthropic for being so transparent about downside risks

  2. Texting with Jesus (WWJD? - this was an obvious next step in the chatbot companion situation)
